Think Before You Park
Have you left enough room?
LEAVE AT LEAST A 3M GAP AND DO NOT PARK ON CORNERS!
In the event of an emergency, it’s really important that road users allow enough space for a fire engine to pass through safely. Cars parked on both sides of narrow or residential roads often make this difficult to get past. Please keep the emergency services in mind when parking your car and ask yourself – could a fire engine get through?
- Parking on footways: Parking on footways is generally prohibited because it can obstruct pedestrians, especially those who use wheelchairs, have baby buggies, or are visually impaired. It can also damage footways, which are not designed to support the weight of vehicles. It can also incur PCNs.
- Parking near driveways: Parking in front of or overlapping driveways can block access to and from the premises.
- Waiting restrictions: Waiting restrictions, indicated by yellow lines, apply to the entire width of the public highway, including the pavement and verge.
- Parking on verges: Parking on a grass verge is not illegal if there are no waiting restrictions, but it can be considered an offense if the vehicle is parked dangerously, causing an obstruction, or damaging the verge.
- Sharing a car, driveway or garage: Sharing with a neighbour can reduce the number of cars on your street.
- Using public transportation: Do you need your car? Using public transportation, walking, or cycling can also help reduce the number of cars in your street.
